2020 RFD Cancelled

UNPREDICTABLE COVID FUTURE FORCES CANCELLATION

The Riverina Field Days regret to announce the 2020 postponed event will not proceed this year due to every changing landscape of COVID-19.

Riverina Field Days organiser Roly Zappacosta said community health and well-being comes first.

“We aren’t willing to put our community at risk by having travelling exhibitors or mass gatherings in our city. As much we’d like to return to ‘normal’ life, it’s going to take some time before people feel comfortable attending events”

The Riverina Field Days was due to be held on 14th and 15th of May of this year and was postponed to 4th and 5th of September 2020.

“It’s been a roller-coaster of decisions. When we first postponed our event from May to September, we were quite confident that by September things were going to be bright. In fact, we were very close to resume planning, however the situation in Victoria has not given us any confidence to pursue a successful and safe field day this year.”

This year’s Riverina Field Days was planned to have a huge focus on Farmer Health with some great new attractions for the whole family, however without full easing of restrictions, the obstacles and logistics to running a successful event is not viable for organisers.

“We are disappointed to cancel again as our committee has put in an enormous effect into planning, but with the current restrictions it was very difficult to navigate and COVID is too unpredictable. It’s just too risky and the burning question of What if? ”

Not only it is disappointing for organisers, exhibitors, community groups and field-day goers, the Riverina Field Days boosts the local economy, hospitality industry and more.

“Our tourism dollar is also impacted. A high number of exhibitors would stay a min of two nights in Griffith, eat, fuel up and visit local shops.”

The Riverina Field Days would like to thank it’s committee, sponsors and exhibitors for being patient and understanding during such a turbulent year. The focus will now shift to May 14th and 15th of 2021.
